Native plants, ancient methods, indigenous knowledge and more.
Penetanguishene – Native Plant Living Laboratory
Our team will build an applied research and experiential learning facility purposefully designed as a world-class destination focused on how to grow food locally using regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, geodesic dome greenhouses, and other highly replicable/modular technologies.
Our permaculture goals are to achieve high-yield local food production while simultaneously enhancing ecological and human health; native biodiversity; and educational engagement. Our proposal is informed by the Ripple Project’s native biodiversity station, (which is located in Nevada, USA). Our team will synthesize knowledge by combining the experience of our lead applicants, the Toronto Black Farmers and Growers Collective, Relay Education, Native Plants in Claremont, IREA, Wild One Plants and Design and the Rural-Urban Learning Association and our numerous local private sector colleagues to increase local food production year-round within urban farm settings.
